The Party Animal by Paul Hellweg

Twenty-five years ago
I wrote poetry
about going to parties
and being the outsider,
observing life,
writing about it,
but not partaking.
Last night
I went to a party
and met all the lonely people
who drank to ease their pain,
and I’m becoming more social
now that I fit in.
