It Is No Longer Rebellious To Be Drunk by Mike Meraz

the best
of us
get to work
sober
now

the least
of us
on pills
or booze

there is so
much
heartache
now
in the most
mundane places

you don't
know
who you are
talking to

a pill
a pamphlet
a joint
a line of coke

no one
is hardly
themselves
anymore.

Great stuff Mike - life is too short to spend it unconscious.

amen. so many of us spend our lives trying to kill pain in some way or another. seems very few of us know who we are anymore. this is one of my all time favorites m.

I like this Mike.

You're right: getting drunk and stoned is great fun, but it often makes for really boring writing.
